Wedding FAQs

Why hello there!  You must be considering hiring me for your wedding day!  First, I congratulate you on  your engagement. 🙂  You must be very excited and I am excited for you.  Second, I must thank you for taking the time to look through my work to see if I’m a perfect fit for you and your day.  I know that there are many wedding photographers to choose from, so I am always so honored when I am chosen.

I know that you may have some questions.  I’m writing this to help share answers to common questions most couples have.  However, if you decide you have any additional questions, please feel free to ask.

Do you have a second photographer?

This is the most common question to come up and usually one of the first.  I do not include a second photographer in most of my packages.  The reason I have chosen to not include one is because I want to leave that decision in your hands.  Any photographer who includes a second photographer has the fee already built into your package.  So you are not getting one for free, you are paying for one.  Instead of building it into the package, I decided to make it an optional add on.  Not all of my brides want a second photographer, so why should I make them pay for one if they really don’t feel it’s how they want to spend that money?  We can talk more about this and whether it’s a good choice for you or not during our meeting.

The majority of my weddings do not have a 2nd photographer.  I do bring an assistant along with me to the wedding who is there to help me carry gear, be the runner as needed, hold lighting equipment, etc.  Their roll is not to shoot.

How many weddings have you photographed?

I don’t get this questions much, but I wanted to assure you I have experience. I have experience in just about any situation.  I’ve been photographing weddings since 2011 and although I have lost count of how many, there have been A LOT, haha. I have also been a 2nd photographer and had the experience of working with many others.  I have photographed weddings on rainy days, windy days, harsh lit hot days and beautifully overcast days.  I’ve been in strict churches that basically told me I was lucky to be allowed in and to stay on the back wall and don’t move and been in very relaxed situations where they told me to do whatever I wanted.  I have learned over the years that being a wedding photographer takes incredible flexibility.  You have to be able to adapt to the situation given and go with the flow.  There is no sense wasting energy on things you cannot control.  I just find a way to make things work because I have no time to do anything other than that.

Can we get the digital files?

Yes! All of my Collections include the final edited digital files with print release.  I want you to have these files to be able to reprint as much as you like in the future.   Your files are not restricted to size.  Many will ask if they receive copyrights, no you do not.  I retain copyrights for all of the images.  You can read more on the difference between copyright and print release here.

How many images will I get?

Another great question.  I never promise any set quantities.  My goal is quality over quantity.  I will not overwhelm you with thousands of images that all look the same.  The amount of images you get will depend on your specific day.  There are so many things that go into  your final number: weather, amount of details to be photographed, second shooter images if added on, venue limitations, time limitations, length of coverage, etc.  My promise is to document your day so that when you look through your images you are brought back to that day, not looking at the same 30 images of a cake because I promised you 1000 images. 🙂  I will say that on average, 8 hours coverage will give about 600 images.  Even though that number is smaller than thousands, trust me, it is still a lot, haha.

When will I get my images?

Turn around time is 10 weeks.  So 10 weeks after your wedding date, you will have a USB drive with your high resolution final edited images with print release.  There will be no waiting years for your images with me.  I would never want to wait that long to see my images.

What equipment do you use?  Will you have backups?

Let me tell you, professional photography equipment is expensive! haha  However, I will not take the chance of having something happening to my equipment and not be able to shoot.  Any professional wedding photographer should have at least 2 camera bodies.  Cameras can easily fail or be damaged during a wedding day.  Your day goes on regardless of my gear.  So yes, I have backups. 🙂  I prefer to work with natural light as much as possible, but do have lighting equipment to use when needed and for receptions.

For the techie: I shoot with Nikon equipment.  I have 3 bodies (Nikon D3S, and 2 Nikon D750,s).  I have the following lenses: Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR2 (this is my beautiful beast lens), 85 1.8, 50 1.4, 35 1.8, 28-75 2.8, 105 2.8 macro.

Do you offer engagement sessions?

Yes! I love engagement sessions.  This is a great opportunity for us to spend some time together so that on your wedding day you are even more comfortable with me.  Odds are you do not have professional photographs of yourselves together.  This is a great time to get some photos where you are not in wedding attire.  If you plan on sending save the dates with a photo, they should be sent 4-6 months before the wedding.  So you’ll want to plan your session accordingly.

Do you help with the timeline?

The timeline can sound like a daunting task to figure out.  You have enough to worry about when it comes to seating charts, haha, so I am definitely happy to help with the timeline.  I like 1 1/2 hours for portraits if possible.  This includes family, bridal party and bride and groom.  If I’m given less time, I can absolutely make it work, there are just less images.  At all in one venues, I’m often only provided cocktail hour for all portraits.  I’m always available via email or phone to help you with questions on the timeline.  I want your day to run as smoothly as possible and if you do not have a coordinator, I fill their shoes and guide the day.

Are you insured?

Yes!!! 100%!!  If your venue wants a certificate of liability insurance, my agent can provide that.
