When I arrive for a newborn hospital photography session, aka Fresh 48 session, I’m always excited to meet the family and their new baby. It brings back memories of when my own babies were born. When Mickey reached out to me to add on a Fresh 48 session to her newborn package, I held my breath. I had a wedding that weekend and was nervous I wouldn’t make it. So she texted me on Friday saying Mae had arrived and I was nervous it just wouldn’t happen. We arranged the session for Sunday morning right before they were discharged. I arrived to a smiling and happy family. I loved getting to know them and capturing this special time before they headed home with their beautiful baby girl. Mickey’s mom had come in from North Carolina to help out, so it was such a pleasure to meet her as well.
My focus with these sessions is to capture the raw perfection of welcoming a baby into the world. Labor and delivery is not a pretty thing, it’s a beautiful thing. There are so many incredible emotions that happen in those first few days in the hospital room. I love that Fresh 48 photography captures this time to help transport parents back there any time they want. Those feelings will always stay so fresh for them for many years to come. Before they know it, Mae will be celebrating her first birthday.
