If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit Freedlove in Scranton, PA, you should definitely make the time to stop. What a fun, trendy & stylish store. Their address: 532 Spruce Street, Scranton, PA 18503.
I stopped in to talk to one of the owners about her store and see what all the hype was about. 🙂 What a beautiful store they have! I just had to take some photos to share with you all to help encourage you to visit (if you haven’t). I ended up leaving with a beautiful pair of fingerless gloves for myself (I shared pics on facebook and everyone loved them, too), a dreamcatcher for my oldest daugher (who flipped out loved it) and a keychain worthy of my Hello Kitty loving 5 yr old. They also have a website for online shopping.
Here is my little interview via email. I was going to rewrite, but decided I love when my true voice is heard, I wanted their to be as well. 🙂
When did Freedlove open it’s first retail location?
We first opened our store in the summer of 2009 in Honesdale, PA.
Your first store was in Honesdale, when did you open in Scranton?
About two years later we opened our second store in Scranton, Summer of 2011. We closed our doors in Honesdale in August 2012 to focus on our Scranton location.
What do you love most about your new location?
We moved to Scranton because we wanted to be in a community that had some energy. Not that Honesdale didn’t, we just see Scranton as a making a comeback towards a new vibrant city and we wanted to be a part. If you look around, there are a lot of young business owners here trying to do things differently. We feel happy and proud to contribute to that. For Freedlove personally, we saw Scranton as a place where we could grow and meet new clientele. Our new space is very open and bright. We think its a great canvas to present to our customer the products and colorful lifestyle that we love.
Who came up with the name Freedlove and what’s the story behind it?
Around the time we started our first store we threw a birthday party for our Dad. We gave him a family tree. When we were throwing around names for the store we remembered a 6th generation grandmothers name, it was Freedlove Northrup. As we were putting together the concept for our store, the name Freedlove seemed like a perfect fit. We kept it and love it.
What types of products and items does Freedlove carry?
We carry predominately women’s clothing, from occasion dresses to every day casual. We do offer indie brand names like Mink Pink, BBDakota, and Motel Rocks but we also carry smaller lines that might not be recognizable. When we do our buying, we search for unique stand out pieces. We get a lot of compliments on our selection and I think that’s because we spend so much time hand selecting each piece. We also carry jewelry, books, accessories, bags and other fun gift items. This spring we will be bringing in some home good items.
Who would love Freedlove?
We have found that people of all ages love Freedlove. If someone loves color, playing around with personal style, good energy, then they are going to love the experience they have at Freedlove. We work really hard to keep things affordable for people, so if you look you’ll always find something unique that won’t break the bank.
Any goals or big plans for 2013?
There are always new plans and ideas in the works. We are hoping to revamp our online site for this spring summer. Bring in new and exciting brands. and eventually we would love to open up another location. But most of all we hope always stay energized!
Here are some photos from their beautiful store! Don’t forget to find them on FACEBOOK!
Nice dreamcatchers! Which one did you buy for your daughter?
You are the maker? Great work! I got her a small one with a blackish or very dark purple circle and purple for the rest. It’s very pretty. She sleeps in the top bunk and it hangs above her headboard. 🙂
I am! You can check out my stuff at http://www.facebook.com/daydreamercatchers So happy that she loves it! Perfect for a bunk bed 🙂
